Pop Viz: All the Single Ladies, Now Put Your Hands Up

February 14, 2013

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This time of year, you see a lot of visualizations of the single population. Such as this one, this one, or this one.

I have some issues with all of these. The first one is the most useless. It kind of shows you if a metro area has more women or men and how many. Cool. Like I’m totally going to take a trip across the country to be in a town that matches my preferences for Valentine’s Day. The second one solves that problem by dealing more locally; which is great. But it doesn’t give you any idea about what kind of singles are in that area. It’s great that there are so many single men in a particular neighborhood, but what if they are outside of my acceptable dating age range? The third one solves that problem, but again, we are back to the whole country.

So, I decided to combine all the things I wanted out of a singles viz and put it in one. If you are Single and reside in the greater Seattle Area, here’s a handy viz to help you pick a neighborhood to hang out in to meet people.
